To enter Colombia, travelers from abroad must present to customs authorities the required ocuments according to the current international standards. A foreigner can present one of the following documents:

  • Valid passport: All the visitors from abroad must have a valid passport with a minimum validity of six months from the date they enter Colombia.

  • Return Ticket: It is recommended to have a return ticket to their Country to show they have the intention of leaving Colombia within the allowed period of stay.

  • Vaccination certificate (If corresponds): Depending on the Country of origin and the epidemiological situation, it may be necessary to show a vaccination certificate against certain diseases, such as yellow fever. (Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta National Park, Tayrona Park and the different natural reserves from the Amazons).

These documents must be accompanied by a visa if the nationality or activity requires it, a return ticket and demonstration of economic solvency if necessary.

Also, it is necessary to make the pre-immigration registration Check-Mig with up to 72 hours in advance to the trip or up to one hour before departure.

  • Cazuela de Mariscos (Seafood casserole) (Chocó): In the Colombian pacific coast this dish is really popular. A delicious mix of seafood like shrimp, prawn, octopus, and fish cooked in a tasty coconut sauce with tomato, onion, and spices.

    And as dessert is also important and Colombia stands out for being a Country full of taste, here are some recommendations:
  • Coffee: Explore the Colombian coffee experience. A distinctive flavor reflecting passion and tradition. Each sip is an experience to the senses taking you to the exuberant landscapes and coffee culture of the Country. Tip: In Colombia we call black coffee “Tinto”.
  • Buñuelos: Delicious fried dough made of corn and cheese, traditionally eaten during Christmas holidays.
  • Pandebono: Round and soft biscuit made with yucca starch, cheese, and eggs. Typical from the Andean region.
  • Almojábanas: Like the pandebono but spongier and slightly sweeter. Also made with yucca starch and cheese.
  • Roscones: Traditional bakery dessert with a round shape made with flour, sugar, butter, and eggs. Usually decorated with frosting and filled with guava paste.
  • Natilla: Creamy sweet dessert made with milk, corn starch, sugar, cinnamon, slowly cooked until it gets really thick. It is usually eaten during Christmas holidays.
  • Arequipe (Dulce de Leche): Sweet preserve made with milk and sugar, slowly cooked until it gets a thick and caramelized texture. It is used as stuffing for desserts or to spread on bread or cookies.
  • Arroz con Leche: Creamy dessert made with rice cooked in milk with sugar and cinnamon. Often scented with lemon or orange peel and accompanied with coconut or raisins.
  • Arepas: This Colombian delight has some variations according to the region. Arepa de huevo from the Caribbean, arepa paisa in Antioquia, arepa de choclo in the Andean region and arepa boyacense.
