Generally, the country has a tropical climate in the coastal regions, with warm temperatures year-round. In the mountainous areas, the climate can be cooler, especially at higher altitudes.

However, due to its proximity to the equator, Colombia does NOT have seasons, making it a pleasant destination to visit at any time of year.

Culture and Traditions:

Immerse yourself in Colombia's rich culture and learn about its traditions, festivals, and gastronomy. Each city and/or department has typical dishes that we know you'll enjoy.

For example, in terms of gastronomy, Colombia has a great diversity of flavors ideal for lunch or dinner, and at Conecty we want to share some recommendations with you:

  • Bandeja Paisa (Medellín and surrounding areas): Originating from the Antioquia region, this dish is a feast for food lovers. It includes rice, beans, ground beef or chicharrón (fried pork rinds), a fried egg, avocado, ripe plantain, and arepa (corn cake).

  • Ajiaco (Bogotá): This comforting dish originates from the capital city of Bogotá. It's prepared with chicken, corn, a variety of potatoes, guascas (an aromatic herb), capers, and cream. It's a perfect dish for cold days.

  • Sancocho (Cartagena and surrounding areas): Popular on the Caribbean coast, sancocho is a thick soup containing meat (chicken, beef, or pork), yucca, plantain, potato, and corn. It is a comforting and very tasty meal.

  • Tolima-style roasted pig (Ibagué and surrounding areas): Originating from the department of Tolima, this specialty consists of a whole pig stuffed with rice, peas, onions, spices, and minced pork. It is slowly cooked in an oven for several hours until the skin is crispy.

  • Seafood Casserole (Chocó): This dish is very popular on the Colombian Pacific coast. It's a delicious mix of seafood such as shrimp, prawns, octopus, and fish, cooked in a flavorful coconut sauce with tomato, onion, and spices.

And since dessert is also important, and Colombia is known for being a country of delicious flavors, we share some other recommendations:

  • Coffee: Immerse yourself in the unique experience of Colombian coffee, a distinctive flavor that reflects the passion and tradition of Colombia. Each sip is a sensory journey that transports you to the country's lush landscapes and rich coffee culture. Tip: In Colombia, we call dark coffee "Tinto."

  • Almojábanas: Similar to pandebono, but with a fluffier texture and a slightly sweeter flavor, also made with cassava starch and cheese.
